On April 3, 2017, a 13 year old girl dropped her cell phone on the tracks of NYC’s R Train subway line in Rego Park, Queens. The station is located at 63rd Drive and Queens Blvd.

The you girl jumped down onto the tracks to retrieve her phone, but was unable to climb back up the station platform. The girl was struck by the Southbound R train as horrified onlookers tried in vain to save her.  Bystanders attempted to lift the train car off the girl.  Once she was freed, the victim was transported by paramedics to nearby Elmhurst Hospital and pronounced dead.
