A cell phone injury can result from a variety of improper uses. However, when you are not even using it and the phone explodes in your pocket, the design and manufacturing of the device is called into question.
The cell phone injury sustained by the owner of an exploding LG smart phone included severe burns on his leg and hand.
The victim purchased his LG Optimus F6 cell phone from Metro PCS near his home in Jamaica Estates, Queens NY on September 21, 2014.
The purchase was backed by an Express Warranty from manufacturer LG Electronics, a South Korean company.
On January 13, 2016, the owner of the phone was in his New York office with the cell phone in his pocket. Without warning, the device exploded in a burst of flames.
The victim was taken by ambulance to Cornell Medical Center’s Burn Unit where he underwent three weeks of medical treatment and skin grafts.
The cell phone injury victim filed a lawsuit against LG Electronics in U.S. District Court on April 5, 2016. He alleges the LG phone was “not reasonably fit for the ordinary purpose for which it was intended.”
The man’s wife also appeared in the lawsuit as a second Plaintiff. She is demanding compensation for the loss of companionship with her husband that she endured during his recovery.
